Custom Edge Trims

Manufactured to order to suit a range of panel thicknesses. With or without sponge sealing bulbs.

Looking for an off-the-shelf product? View our extensive range of edge trims available for next working day delivery.

We can manufacture custom edge trims, also known as titanfast and knock on trims, to suit different panel thicknesses. These safety edging trims can also be manufactured as a co-extrusion with a top or side sponge sealing bulb for applications where you need to create a watertight seal. We normally manufacture these products in PVC, silicone and EPDM.

Edge trims are commonly used for edge protection to cover sharp edges on panels, doors and glass. They consist of a U-shaped rubber or PVC edge trim which contains a steel strip or wire carrier. This allows the section to grip onto the edge without the need for adhesive or special attachment aids. The simplistic shape of this profile makes these sections suitable for a variety of applications in most industry sectors. They can be easily identified by the thickness of the edge that they need to fit over and can be fitted by hand or gently knocked onto the edge with a rubber hammer.

We can also manufacture edge trim seals with a top or side seal. These profiles are a co-extrusion that comprises of a metal reinforced edge trim with a closed-cell sponge sealing bulb. The edge trim clips over the edge holding the sponge bulb in place to create a watertight seal when compressed. This sponge bulb can be located on either the top or side of the trim, depending on the position of the flange and the angle in which the lid or door closes. The size of the bulb should be chosen based on the size of the gap. It is essential to choose a bulb which compresses around 30% when the lid or door is closed. This is to ensure longevity of the seal and reduce the chance of compression set.

Depending on the size of the profile, we normally manufacture our custom edge trims in continuous lengths between 25m and 50m. Although the production run for custom edge trims is normally around 3000 metres, we have access to over 500 existing tools and products which may allow your requirements to be met by a standard section. Please contact us with your requirements and we will be happy to explore both off-the-shelf and completely bespoke options.

Edge Trim Dimensions

Edge trims are available from an extensive range of off-the-shelf products but can also be manufactured to order to suit your projects requirements. They can be identified by the thickness of the panel the edge trim will fit over, as well as the diameter of the sealing bulb. To allow us look into whether your requirements can be met by a standard or custom product, we need the following information.

Our Custom Rubber Seal Manufacturing Process

We work with an extensive range of rubber and plastic compounds including EPDM, Natural rubber, Neoprene, Nitrile, Silicone, and PVC, many of which are available in either sponge or solid forms. This selection allows us to extrude both rubber edge trims and PVC edge trims that take into account any environmental, chemical or temperature demands of your project.

The manufacturing process starts with our specialist toolmakers who turn your sample or technical dimensioned drawing into a tool that can be used to extrude an exact replica of your rubber seal. This extrusion process uses temperature and pressure to push the rubber compound and metal spine through the tool to extrude the required shape. The extruded seal is then cured using heat to vulcanise and harden the extrusion.

Although the majority of rubber seals are manufactured using a very similar procedure, we understand that your sealing solution may require additional non-standard processes. This could include joining, applying self-adhesive backing, or cutting to desired lengths. Whilst it is possible to do this on-site after production, it is often preferable to do this at the time of manufacture to increase the speed and ease of installation of the final product.

Manufacturing a custom edge trim usually requires a production run of at least 3,000 metres. However, with access to over 500 existing profiles, your requirements can usually be met by a standard section with a significantly lower minimum order quantity. We are happy to quote for a complete custom solution, as well as help you identify existing profiles that are close to your requirements.

Standard Edge Trims

With over 700 stocked products, our off-the-shelf edge trims are available in a range of sizes to fit different panel thicknesses. We stock an extensive range of knock on trims for edge protection, and edge trims with sealing bulbs for sealing applications. These products are normally immediately available and can be dispatched the same day on a next working day courier.

Edge Trims

Our rubber and PVC edge trims are reinforced with a metal spine that grips onto the panel edge without the need for additional adhesive. They are available in a selection of sizes designed to fit different panel thicknesses.

Edge Trims with Top Seal

These edge trim seals comprise of a metal reinforced edge trim with a top sealing bulb. In the same way as standard edge trims, they are designed to fit onto different panel edges. The top sealing bulb compresses when the lid or door is closed to create a watertight seal.

Edge Trims with Side Seal

Edge trims with side sealing bulbs work in the same way as top seals but allow you to create a watertight seal for applications where the lid or door closes from the side.

Edge Trims with Lip Seal

These seals are manufactured with a sponge lip on either the top or side of the profile. The lip works in the same way as a circular sponge bulb by creating a seal when the lip is compressed.

Plastic Reinforced Edge Trims

We also supply a small range of plastic reinforced edge trims for projects which require a trim with non-conductive and non-rusting properties. They are generally more flexible and lighter than similar sized metal reinforced alternatives.

Other Custom Rubber Seals & Trims

Custom rubber seals and trims can be extruded in virtually any shape in most rubber compounds. Different profiles are suitable for different applications and selecting the correct shape, material and hardness is essential to ensure a long term sealing solution.
