Sponge strip, also known as foam strip, can be cut to any width and thickness. As a closed-cell sponge, these products are commonly used for creating watertight seals on hatches, lockers, doors, enclosures and cabinets.
We can cut this product from a large selection of expanded sponge materials including Neoprene, Silicone, PVC, Nitrile and Polyethylene. These materials are often blended together to create hybrid compounds to reduce cost or increase resistance to UV, chemicals and oil. For example, our standard sponge strip is a Neoprene and EPDM blend which offers better UV stability and chemical resistance. However, we also offer materials such as a Nitrile and PVC blend for instances where you require a product that is resistant to oil. Some of these materials are available in special grades, such as rubber compounds that are flame retardant, can be used in high temperatures, or have conductive properties.
This sponge strip will be manufactured without an adhesive backing so will need bonding to the surface using a good quality adhesive. We also have the option to manufacture Custom Self-Adhesive Sponge Rubber Strip with an adhesive backing pre-applied.

Our Sponge Rubber Strip Manufacturing Process
Cutting sponge strip starts by choosing an expanded rubber material suitable for your application. This process should take into account any environmental factors or chemicals the seal will be subjected to when installed. Our extensive range of sponge rubber compounds includes EPDM, Neoprene, Silicone, PVC, Nitrile and Polyethylene. These materials are often blended together to create a hybrid compound with improved resistance characteristics.
Once we have selected a material suitable for your application, the manufacturing process starts by cutting lengths of sponge strip by horizontally slicing a large block of rubber to the required thickness. This process creates large sheets around 1 metre wide by 2 metre long. The ends of these sheets are vulcansed together to create a 6 metre long length which is then carefully rolled into a ‘log’. The final stage involves using a precise cutting machine to cut the log to the required thickness.
Orders for sponge rubber strip cut from standard compounds such as a Neoprene and EPDM blend are usually fulfilled within one to two weeks. Depending on the number of metres your project requires, our manufacturing capabilities allow us to cut strip from either a whole log or part of a log. This allows us to cut custom sizes with a low minimum order quantity but also enables us to offer a lower price for large production runs.
Although the majority of our strip is cut from logs of sponge rubber, we can also extrude sponge profiles. This process creates a seal with a smooth and glossy outer skin.

Standard Sponge Strip
Our off-the-shelf sponge strip is available in a range of widths and thicknesses and can be purchased in small or large quantities to suit your projects requirements. Depending on the chosen material, these products are available by the metre or in 6 metre rolls. We hold extensive stock of most sizes and can dispatch on next working day couriers from our Hampshire based warehouse.
Expanded Neoprene Sponge Strip
Our
sponge strip is an expanded Neoprene and EPDM blend to reduce cost but increase
UV stability and chemical resistance. It is available in 6 metre rolls in a
selection of thicknesses and widths.
Expanded Neoprene Sponge Sheet
This
expanded Neoprene and EPDM sheet is available in 2 metre by 1 metre rolls so is
ideal for making custom sized gaskets or cutting irregular strips and shapes.
Expanded Neoprene Strip (Skinned on 4 Sides)
We
also stock a selection of extruded sponge strip which features a smooth glossy
skin on all four sides. These profiles have a central hole which aids
compression to help create a watertight seal.
Expanded Silicone Strip (Skinned on 4 Sides)
Our
off-the-shelf white sponge Silicone strip is commonly used in environments
subjected to extreme temperatures. It is available by the metre in a choice of
16 different sizes.
