Replacing the Door and Roof Seal on a Romahome

Romahomes are compact campervans produced by a company based on the Isle of Wight. They specialise in creating motorhomes that are practical, easy to drive and suited to owners looking for a smaller vehicle. These campervans are typically built on small commercial vehicle chassis, such as the Citroën Berlingo or Honda Acty. Despite their small size, Romahomes are cleverly designed to maximize the space within the vehicle and its functionality. They often featuring fold-out beds, compact kitchens and compact but ingenious storage solutions.

The appeal of Romahomes lies in their ability to offer the comforts of a traditional motorhome without the requirement to purchase a large and expensive vehicle. They are ideal for solo travelers or couples providing a cozy and convenient living space that can easily navigate both narrow country roads and urban environments. Over the years, Romahome has built a loyal customer base, thanks to its commitment to quality craftsmanship and innovative design. They are a popular choice among enthusiasts of compact and efficient motorhomes.

Replacing a Romahome Roof Seal

As with any caravan, motorhome or campervan, the sealing profiles on a Romahome should be occasionally replaced to ensure they are providing an adequate seal that minimises the change of water ingress.

We were recently visited by a customer looking for a replacement roof seal for their Romahome. Looking at their vehicle, the current section had seen better days. It had shrunk at either end, started to crumble and wasn’t holding itself onto the panel edge. Helping this customer find a replacement product was important to ensuring the longevity of her van and preventing damage to the internal walls of the vehicle.

Most Romahomes are fitted with a clip on edge trim with side seal. This rubber seal has a metal reinforced clip that holds itself onto the panel edge without the need for adhesive or mechanical fixings. It also consists of a sponge sealing bulb positioned on the side of the edge trim. This compresses when the roof is closed to create a watertight seal. Although, the exact rubber seal you need depends on your particular vehicle, we often find that most Romahomes are fitted with ETS58. This section fits over a 2mm to 4mm panel edge, and has a 16.5mm diameter sponge sealing bulb.

Replacing a Romahome Rear Door Seal

This Romahome also required a replacement rear door seal. Although the profile had not excessively deteriorated, the owner of this vehicle wanted to replace this section. The rear doors on most Romahomes are fitted with a clip on edge trim with side seal, similar to ETS58 used to seal the roof. This profile holds itself onto the bodywork and compresses to create a reliable seal when the door is closed.

We have also seen instances where other rubber seals have been used to seal the rear doors. This includes CS904 and OWS780.

However, as with any seal replacement it is worth looking at the end profile of your current section before buying a replacement product. By studying the cross-sectional profile, you can see the unique shape of the rubber seal and purchase a replacement product that matches the shape and size of your current seal. Please feel free to contact our technical team if you would like help identifying a replacement rubber seal for your vehicle.
