Custom Window Gaskets

Manufactured to order for UPVC, timber or Aluminium glazing units.

Looking for an off-the-shelf product? View our extensive range of glazing gaskets available for next working day delivery.

With tens of thousands of window gaskets being used by glazing installers each year, it is often difficult to find a direct replacement to your existing seal. Although most glazing systems use a wedge gasket, E gasket, flipper gasket or bubble gasket, there are thousands of variants differing ever so slightly in size. With access to most of these sections and the ability to reverse engineer and manufacture seals that are no longer available, Seals Direct is a leading supplier of rubber window seals for most uPVC, timber and aluminum glazing units.

Although we can reverse engineer most existing seals, it is sometimes necessary to manufacture a custom product for new installs or instances where the previous seal is missing. These products can be manufactured from any compound but are most often made from TPE which is a blend between PVC and rubber. This is a UV stable material so is suitable for use on windows and doors subjected to prolonged periods of daylight. We can also manufacture window gaskets as co-extrusions with a solid rubber foot and sponge rubber sealing bulb.

Depending on the required section, it is also possible to include an anti-stretch cord in the centre of the seal. This stops you from accidentally stretching the gasket during installation and reduces the chance of gaps forming around the window when the seal shrinks back to its original length. We can also apply a silicone coating on some wedge gaskets to allow for easy installation.

The minimum order quantity for these sections varies depending on whether the original gasket is still in manufacture. If it is, we can supply these products by the bucket, where the number of metres in the bucket varies between 75m and 250m depending on the size of the section. Window Gasket Dimensions

Rubber window seals are available from an extensive range of off-the-shelf products, but can also be manufactured to order to suit your projects requirements. To enable us to look at whether your requirements can be met by a standard or custom profile, we require the following information.

Our Custom Rubber Seal Manufacturing Process

Due to its excellent UV stability, most of our custom seals for windows and other glazing units are manufactured from TPE. However, we are also able to manufacture these sections from any other rubber and plastic compound in both sponge and solid materials. This selection allows us to extrude a profile taking into account any environmental, chemical or temperature demands.

The manufacturing process starts with our specialist toolmakers who turn your sample or technical dimensioned drawing into a tool that can be used to extrude an exact replica of your rubber seal. This extrusion process uses temperature and pressure to push your chosen rubber compound through the tool to extrude the required shape. The extruded seal is then cured using heat to vulcanise and harden the extrusion.

Although the majority of rubber seals are manufactured using a very similar procedure, we understand that your sealing solution may require additional non-standard processes. This could include joining, applying self-adhesive backing or cutting to desired lengths. Whilst it is possible to do this on-site after production, it is often preferable to do this at the time of manufacture to increase the speed and ease of installation of the final product.

Manufacturing a custom rubber seal can be completed at a relatively low cost with production runs requiring as little as 30 metres. For large production quantities, we have the option of manufacturing sample lengths before going to bulk production. This allows you to look at the finished product and test how it performs. The process of moving from concept to delivery can normally be fulfilled within two to three weeks, depending on the material and complexity of the profile.

Off-The-Shelf Window Seals

With an extensive range of off-the-shelf products, our window gaskets are available in a range of shapes, colours and sizes designed to fit most glazing units. Our stocked products can be ordered by the metre and are normally immediately available for dispatch on a next working day courier.

Wedge Gaskets

Wedge gaskets are designed to be inserted between the glass and frame to apply compression against the window and create a watertight seal by holding the window tightly in place. They are available in a selection of sizes to fit different panel gaps.

General Glazing Gaskets

Our selection of E gaskets, flipper gaskets and bubble seals are designed to be used on uPVC glazing systems. All of these sections can be ordered by the metre.

Brush Seals

Our brush seals are recognised within the industry for use in heritage and conservation buildings. These products can be supplied with an adhesive backing or with a plastic foot that slides into a carrier or groove.

Timber Foam Weatherseals

Timber foam seals are designed to be used in timber frames and doors. They are available in a selection of sizes and colours and are best identified by taking measurements from your existing seal.

Glass Door Seals

Glass door seals offer a solution for perimeter and threshold sealing of full height glass doors. They are suitable with both standard (10mm and 12mm) or laminated (10.8mm and 12.8mm) glass.

Other Custom Rubber Seals & Trims

Custom rubber seals and trims can be extruded in virtually any shape in most rubber compounds. Different profiles are suitable for different applications and selecting the correct shape, material and hardness is essential to ensure a long term sealing solution. Visit our  Custom Rubber Seal & Trim directory to view our range of made-to-order extrusion shapes, gaskets and custom products.
