Rubber Edge Trims with Top Seal
Rubber edge trims with top seals are flexible trims that hold themselves onto an edge without the need for adhesive, screws or other fixings. Manufactured with a metal-reinforced core, self-gripping trims are suitable for heavy duty applications that may be subjected to knocks, bumps or other impact. The metal spine also helps protect the underlying surface from unintentional damage. They can be fitted onto most materials that are a consistent thickness, such as fibreglass, carbon fibre, metal, wood or glass.
Self-gripping trims with top seals are suitable for applications where the closing lid shuts against the vertical edge. This compresses the sponge sealing bulb to create a reliable seal that minimises the chance of water ingress when the door or lid is closed. Top seals are manufactured from a closed-cell sponge rubber that will not absorb water.
We recommend compressing the sponge sealing bulb on the top of the section by approximately 30%. This minimises the chance of damaging the section with prolonged and excessive compression. When identifying a replacement product, you should aim to choose a new section that is approximately a third larger than the size of the gap you are trying to seal. For example, a top seal with a 12mm diameter top seal will be suitable for a 10mm gap. It is also essential to message the thickness of the panel edge where the self-gripping seal will be fitted.
