Rubber Edge Trims with Side Seal
Rubber edge trims with side seals are flexible trims that grip onto the edge of a panel to create a reliable watertight sealing solution. They are used to prevent water ingress on vehicles and boats, as well as machinery within industrial and engineering settings. Manufactured with a metal-reinforced core, they hold themselves in place without the need for adhesive or other mechanical fixings. This metal spine also strengthens the self-gripping section and protects the underlying surface.
The sponge sealing bulb is situated onto the side of the self-gripping trim and compresses when squashed by the closing door or lid. These side seals are suitable for edges where the closing part comes into contact with the side of the section. They are manufactured from a closed-cell compressible rubber that does not absorb water.
Self-grip side seals can be clipped onto most materials of a known thickness. To identify the best replacement section, you will need to measure the thickness of the panel edge and the size of the gap that needs to be sealed. We recommend compressing the side sponge sealing bulb by approximately 30% to minimise the chance of compression set and damaging the sponge rubber with excessive force. For example, if you need to seal an 8mm gap, you should use a section with a sealing bulb approximately 12mm in diameter.
