Automotive Door Seals
Door seals, also known as edge trims with side seals, are used on most automotive vehicles to prevent water ingress. As the sponge sealing bulb is located on the side of the section, these sections can be used for any application where the door or lid closes against the side of the protruding panel edge, such as boots, bonnets and doors. In addition to preventing the entrance of fluids and other materials, door seals provide a level of safety edge protection by covering sharp and uneven edges.
The solid rubber edge trim can be fitted onto most materials commonly found within the automotive industry, including sheet metal, glass and plastic. It consists of a metal reinforced spine that allows the trim to hold itself onto the edge of the material without the need for adhesive or mechanical fixings. The sponge sealing bulb is positioned on the side of the trim and compresses to create a watertight seal when the door or lid is closed.
Door seals can be purchased in a selection of sizes depending on the size of the gap they need to seal, and the thickness of the edge that they will be fitted onto. To create a long-term watertight sealing solution, we recommend compressing the side seal by approximately 30%. This minimises the chance of compression set caused by excessive and prolonged compression.
